Say “Hi” to a Hybrid Heating System!
A hybrid heating system is a terrific way to save energy and money! It works by combining a furnace or boiler with an electric ductless heat pump. During the coldest weather, your home will be heated as usual. However, when the temperature begins to rise, your heat pump will take over to reduce your fuel usage and ensure optimum heating efficiency. Plus, smart hybrid systems can automatically make the switch, for the comfort you need when you need it.
How the Components Work Together
- Heat Pump Operation: The heat pump extracts ambient heat from the outside air and moves it indoors. Because it moves heat rather than burning fuel, it is incredibly efficient in mild weather.
- Furnace or Boiler Backup: When temperatures drop below a certain threshold—typically around 32 degrees to 35 degrees—the heat pump loses efficiency and struggles to keep the home warm. At this point, the furnace or boiler turns on to provide continuous, reliable heat by burning fuel.
- Smart Thermostat/Controller: A smart thermostat monitors the outdoor temperature and system performance to seamlessly manage the transition between the two units.
Why Sound Energy Customers Choose Hybrid Systems
- Lower Operating Costs due to low-cost electricity use for your heat pump during the milder months.
- Optimized Comfort: You avoid the chilly air sometimes associated with heat pumps in freezing weather, benefiting instead from the cozy hot air produced by your furnace or boiler.
